Unreliable service, sub-par performance.

Used to be HostDeal.com. Was a pretty reliable service initially. Seems like DotAmerica/DotCanada really messed up what used to be a pretty solid hosting company...
Towards the end of the first year things started going bad, beginning with a sudden change of ownership/names. Over the course of this past year we saw everything from PHP and MySQL crashes, "updates" that broke various website components, extremely slow PHP performance due to them overloading their servers, our initial purchased storage of 4 gigs was cut in half, our e-mails got changed somehow so all passwords had to be reset, and to top it all off, Cpanel was replaced with WebsiteOS. For those of us who do website management and design for a living, WebsiteOS seems like Plesk Kindergarden edition. All these changes/upgrades/degradation of service wcame ithout any e-mail notification whatsoever. I couldn't even access my site's cpanel at one point because they changed the link to a centralized website. No longer did cpanel.mywebsite.com work.
Their excuse? "It's in the news section on the website."
Not once was I offered reparations for the instability of the server or the downgrading of services contracted (not that I would have accepted any free months from such an unreliable service).
When I opted to cancel, all the e-mails bounced back with a notification that since they were getting so much spam, e-mails would no longer be accepted.
I opened a support ticket to billing and eventually I received an e-mail saying to contact DotAmerica. The e-mail was addresses from AffordableHost Legacy Support.
I had to call whom I assume to be the parent company, DotAmerica aka DotCanada, speak to a CSR, and get them to give me an e-mail I could send a cancellation request to.
Within two days I received an e-mail confirmation verifying my service would be cancelled at the end of the contract date.
Unreliable service at its best.

They seem to be good, but they promise 24/7 support, and they don't even have 8 hours support, there is no online support, their answers most of the time are cut and paste, and suddenly the servers go down and you loose everything. DONT EVEN TRY WITH THEM, GO ELSEWHERE ¡¡¡

They lost all of my SQL databases after a 2 week down time to change servers, then managed to loose my entire site one week later! No phone or live support just slow helpdesk tickets!

Been a horrible 2 year experience. This last crash without any backups, on top of the horrific customer service & tech support, has sent me running as far away from them as possible.

Ive been a customer of theirs going on 5 years. I have also happily recommended them to at least 6 of their past and present customers. Im assuming my problem is a result of this dotCanada buyout/whatever.
I have 2 URLS, one of which is a cheap-o, $25 annual renewal. I just paid the renewal fee 2 days before it expired. I decided to check out my site the other day to find out my site expired and someone else bought it. Irritating? most definitely, even more so when its your first and last name dot com, even MORE so when anything you had on that site has apparently vanished. Needless to say I am more than irate. They cashed my check and someone else now owns my domain. The only response Ive gotten out of anyone there was asking for my receipt. I have not heard anything else in the last day or two.
I would like to warn anyone that was considering this company to host their site to NOT TO CHOOSE THEM. This is really, really bad and Im extremely embarrassed that I ever recommended them to anyone let alone the other smaller frusterating, mounting problems Ive had with spam, webmail, changing passwords, etc. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

I went with AffordableHost after FeaturePrice failed, and I had tried a couple other well-known hosting companies with similar bad experiences. AffordableHost is without a doubt the best hosting company I have seen yet. They saved the day for several of my domains. I've had new domains up and running consistently within 24 hours of purchase.
It has been two years now. Each ticket I have submitted has been responded to promptly and courteously, day or night, often within minutes. Usually they even respond to my "thanks!" messages. They have never-ending patience for someone like me who knows enough to be dangerous.
They send a communication out well before all scheduled maintenance, explaining what is going on and what can be expected. And they have sent communications out after unexpected downtimes, which have been minimal.
Tina Peters, the owner, is often out there answering questions. This has been the case since day one. There are others, Jacob, Brian, Matt; all top notch. This is in-house tech support, folks! It doesn't get any better than this.
After two years, there has not been a single negative experience or response. I was paying FOUR TIMES the amount I'm paying at AffordableHost for much less service and quality. If you are looking for trust, respect, good communication, and a sincere provider/customer relationship, then you should consider AffordableHost. They have made my web design life substantially easier. Bravo, AffodableHost!

I'm with AffordableHOST now because they bought out my hosting company, HomeTownHosting. At first everything seemed like it was going to be great, but it wasn't what I expected.
They transfered all of our accounts and we had to change our nameservers, this was no problem we were all moving.
About a week later I figured that with the move over with I could create a hosting account with my reseller like I normally would on HomeTownHosting.
It took three, yes three!, days for the accounts domain to go through. Three! Three!!!!
I tried the live chatroom and ended up being put on hold, by Tina for Jacob, for about 2 hours! When I finally got an answer I was told that the domains were still being rerouted from HomeTown Hosting and at a backup at the time. And then told that it would be ready for use tomorrow.
Well that never happened and I kept going back and never got much support.
Thought once the account was running I had a little trouble with it, but that seemed to fade away (weird) and they didn't have an answer for that either.
But other than that issue the service is great. The servers are at a nice speed and they have a nice helpdesk system and they are there to help you. I relize that they're busy people, but mabye they should hire more people?

I am at Affordable host because the bought my previous hosting company, Seraphex.com and they promised the same features and performance.
Only view the answers of AffordableHost about his server down:
Question: All my domains, ....... .... are not working from several hours.

Miranda is used exclusively for ex-Seraphex accounts, which aren't paying enough to be able to reasonably keep that server running optimal.

After having used AffordableHost for more than a year with no problems, they suddenly suspended my website without any notice. They claimed that my Moveable Type installation, which I had used every day up until then with no issues, was suddenly "crashing their server". All of the experts I have asked say that such a thing is impossible. I discovered quickly that the only way to contact a person at the company "real time" is to enter their IRC chatroom. I sat in that chat room for four hours asking repeatedly for details of the supposed "server crash", only to be told unhelpful things like "Moveable Type is cr*p, you should switch to something else". In the end, the owner, Tina, became rude and sarcastic, but finally admitted in the open chat room that she had been lying about the "crash"!
As of this writing I am attempting to move to another host and have discovered that AffordableDots. com, which is a domain name service owned by the same company, is holding my domain name hostage- they changed my login without notifying me and I have now waited approximately 36 hours waiting for a response to my trouble ticket which will tell me how I can login and unlock my domain.
I strongly advice people to stay far, far away from AffordableHost!!!
