First time web hosting purchase and it was great

I have never purchased web hosting before and was nervous after all the horror stories i read about online with some web hosting providers. Omnis was quick and painless. They have everything I could possibly need for my website. Haven't had the the need to call support yet so can't really comment on that. But if I do I will pass it on.

Below is a direct quote from a phone conversation with an Omnis representative:
USER: Your server was down twice a week, are you guys doing anything to improve that?
OMNIS: Well, server goes down, it happens...
USER: excuse me? (in disbelieve)
OMNIS: ... (silent)
USER: I paid for my hosting plan for a year three months ago, if I cancel my plan now, do I get any refund?
OMNIS: Nope!
USER: You mean I am stuck with you for the rest of the year even if I am not happy with your service?
OMNIS: Yes!
I was the "USER" quoted above.
So, I think that explains why I gave Omnis a "1 star" rating.... would have picked 0 if it was available.
No attempt was ever made on their part to find out why I am considering to cancel my plan. Every time the server went down I called their tech support, so I have heard that "it happens" comment more than once... too many times to be honest.
If you need your web site to be up and running more than 80% of the time, DO NOT host with Omnis.
If you expect to be treated like a paying customer when you need help, and not like a trouble-maker who have just inconvenienced the person who answered the phone, DO NOT host with Omnis.

It deserves NO stars

Because of Omnis, I lost my domain (which is my own name!).
In early September, I transfered my domain to Omnis.com. The company received my payment, but two months later I was still unable to complete the transfer or manage my domain.
I complained on several occasions through their "support" email, which was a total waste of time. No one had a clue what the problem was - or how to solve it.
Ever since the problem started, I've been checking the status of my domain. It always appeared as unavailable, so I was unable to renew it. But now, much to my shock, it appears that the domain (my own name) is registered by a company in Kenya, which is probably trying to make a buck at my expense - thanks to Omnis's incompetence.
I contacted Omnis to ask they solve the problem they caused and got a message from James Fromm, vice president of operations, saying "unfortunately this situation is quite common" and there is nothing they can (or will) do.

I looked around and was amazed at the low domain cost ($15/yr) and hosting options. We didn't need much, so the $6.95/mo WebPresence Plus was just right. Also, they only required a 3 mo minimum signup, so I figured we could bail out if needed. To top it off, they were (and still are?) offering free setup ($50 value).
I was impressed at how quickly and how smoothly things were set up, and how easily I was able to get started. I do have experience with web design, FTP, and all that stuff, so I'm not sure how a complete novice would fare, but I found it worked very well. DNS was active within a day, email works, site stats already work, etc., etc.
I highly recommend this site. Although I haven't compared the high end stuff, the entry level offering is just what I was looking for.
